bliss = dirt + water
First of all, I’ve got a new camera! I mean, I’m still terrified of it because it’s not a little rectangular pocket thing, but I have a feeling I’m going to love it. It’s a Canon Digital Rebel XTi. Uh, whatever that means. We’ll see how long it takes for me to master it or break it, whichever comes first.
The yurt’s falling into place piece by piece after two weeks of living in it. We now have alternative power in the form of a giant rechargeable battery pack/inverter thing (exhibit A) which means we can run a fridge! Ice cold chocolate milk has never tasted so good. We have running water now too, thanks to a gas generator and the biggest pressure tank I’ve ever seen. We have a propane hookup to fire my awesome old school range, found on Craigslist for $25. It burns cookie bottoms, but hey, that’s what Silpat’s for right? Right. I’ll clean enough to take pictures tomorrow, I promise.
Today consisted of cleaning, knitting, and some much-needed chick time with my mommy friend Erin. I never ever get chick time anymore, it’s pathetic. I’m turning into that annoying parent with the high, slow voice, deliberate manners, and weird ass preschool vocabulary, and it’s creeping me out. Erin, seriously. We need to get together more!
Oh, and what did the kids do today? Well, they had a spa day of sorts…

Yes, yes! We definitely need to get together more often. It was fun! Elisabeth would like hanging out with your little ones too. Maybe we’ll see you Monday?
I bet you can’t wait to have a bathtub…! Although mud just dries and falls off eventually, right?!
So glad to see a new post on your blog……… I thought the Yurt had eaten you and your family alive!
What an adorable photo! Good luck with your new camera, how exciting :). How does it work as far as having internet in the yurt? That is so fascinating.
Oh my, but your little girl is adorable. So are the baby goats! Your mom pointed me in the direction of your blog after she purchased some yarn from me (Earthly Hues on Etsy). She said it ws for her red-haired granddaughter, and I shared I’ve got a red-haired sonshine.
The funny thing is, I’m almost convinced that Yurt living would be great. I just have to convince my husband! We’re going to have to move to NJ once our house in OH sells, and there’s nothing there that’s at all desirable and at the same time within budget. So, I’m thinking, buy some land and throw up a Yurt! I’ve even researched toilets and solar power. I’m guessing you’ve worked out Internet connectivity! Anyway, I’m yammering on a blog belonging to a woman I don’t know. I have a feeling we’d be friends though if the stars aligned!
BTW, cherry almond is my all-time favorite smell. I’m going to buy some soap now!
